- biography -
Rory Lesperance is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and mixed media artist. He has explored many different interests such as physics, biology, illustration, and sports, but the one that left the biggest impression was music. After graduating from high school, he pursued his undergraduate studies in music at the University of Stony Brook. Here he was awarded the Michael Bane Prize for excellence in performance and academics, while also graduating with Magna cum Laude distinction. He performed as the first bassoonist in both the University Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, as well as tenor saxophone in jazz combo. While studying at Stony Brook, he discovered a passion for writing his own instrumental music. As a result, Rory has written a variety of pieces in a mix of genres and instrumentations, notably for solo bassoon, big band, and orchestra. In his artistic career he hopes to create music for different media such as film and television, compose music for large ensembles in live performances, and help mentor the next generation of artists. He chose this path to be a community driven individual working towards the creation of accessible contemporary music.
This spring Rory will be finishing his last semester at Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He will be earning his Master of Music in Composition. More recently, he is working towards finalizing a piece that is several years in the making, titled Contemplation by Lamplight, a 5 part jazz suite, that is to be premiered this upcoming spring.
